John Najjar Furniture Forever - Custom made recycled timber furniture

About the Process

Our 100% recycled timber is sourced from all over Australia and journeys to our Brunswick factory to begin a new life as uniquely beautiful Custom Made Australian Recycled Timber furniture.

Should a century old River Redgum have fallen along a stretch of the Murray River it need not be left to rot or be lost to the ravages of time. John Najjar Furniture Forever will rescue it from its dead resting place and, after having been cut into workable slabs, it will be sent on its journey to new life. If the timber is wet, it is placed in a drying kiln or naturally air dried to approximately 12 to 15 percent moisture content, before being brought to the John Najjar Furniture Forever factory in Brunswick to be leveled and cut to size.

If the slab is to be made into a table, you and John will discuss each element of that table's design. You will have input into deciding the height, length and width of the table to fit your family size or the room space you have available; whether the table should have natural or finished legs; and the design and height of the accompanying chairs.

Once the design is agreed upon, it is sketched and presented for you to see. Only when you have approved will it then be handcrafted by John and his team.

Each piece of timber is sanded many times to bring out the best finish, and is then oiled to accentuate the beautiful natural grain and texture of your selected piece of 100% Recycled Australian Timber. Natural cracking and knotting can be either skilfully filled and repaired, or retained to provide character and natural beauty to the finished piece. You have the opportunity to add small personal treasures (e.g. crystals) to any knotholes before they are filled with clear resin. Your requirements are always paramount and it will always be your choice.

This painstaking process is used for any piece of recycled timber crafted by John Najjar Furniture Forever. We use beautiful fallen timber that would otherwise be burned or woodchipped and therefore wasted. Other sources of timber include pieces reclaimed from development renovations, wharfs, bridges, woolsheds, old fencing or flooring.

You can even create that special personal piece of furniture by having John Najjar Furniture Forever rescue that beautiful old fallen tree in your own backyard.

The list for sourcing beautiful recycled timber is endless.

John Najjar gives "Old timber a new life".
